Strategic Communications Specialist Oden Institute

Biography

Johnny Holden is the communications strategist at the Oden Institute. He also holds a position as Communications Consultant for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC). The communications office at Oden Institute is responsible for the identification, conception, design and delivery of compelling content for its research community. This can be in a variety of formats such as written, visual and audio. It is also responsible for maintaining the Institute’s social media channels.

Before joining the Oden Institute, Holden worked at UT’s Cockrell School of Engineering communications office, where he oversaw the PR campaign for the 2019 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Dr John Goodenough,  (inventor of the lithium-ion battery.)  This story received over 4 billion unique views online, making it one of the most popular news stories in the university's history.   Holden has spent almost two decades working as  a journalist, and has been published in the Irish Times Newspaper, TechCrunch, Politico, Texas Tribune, The Week (India) etc. As a reporter he has interviewed several prominent public figures including, former U.S. President Barack Obama, Senator Bernie Sanders, SpaceX Founder Elon Musk, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, Nobel Laureate and co-discoverer of the structure of DNA James Watson, Michael Dell of Dell Computers, Jazz legend Wayne Shorter, and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac.
